National After-School All-Stars grew out of Inner-City Games, an initiative founded in Los Angeles in 1991 to positively influence and inspire at-risk children and youth. Arnold Schwarzenegger founded the Inner-City Games Foundation in 1995 to expand the program Nationwide. The name was changed to After-School All-Stars in July 2003.
SAN JOSE CHAPTER The San Jose Chapter of the After-School All-Stars; originally called the Inner-City Games (ICG), was founded in May of 1997 through the work of the San Jose Sports Authority, the City of San Jose and the Division of Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Services. Programming in the early years focused on sports programs and Summer Celebratory Events. The early work by the ICG in the Schools, Community Centers, and Community Based Organizations they served created the foundation for our programs today. Today’s programs go far beyond our early work in the community. Our goal is to become the premier after-school program provider. With our partnerships with the City of San Jose-San Jose Afterschool, the Mt. Pleasant School District and the San Jose Unified School District, we are serving over 2,000 children annually in our Comprehensive After-School programs. Our program content is designed to meet specific local needs and interests, however, each of our sites is committed to providing a comprehensive after-school experience that includes our three core components; independent learning, academics, and enrichment. After-School All-Stars … where all kids are a lifetime investment.
