Sports & Wellness

Middle School Sports Leagues-2,000 Participants

Elementary Sports 200 Participants

Wellness- Fit For Learning & Generations @ All Sites

The primary purpose of the middle school sports league is to encourage physical activity, promote healthy lifestyles and life skills through after-school sports programming. After-School All-Stars Greater San Jose (ASAS) consists of two middle school sports leagues. The San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD) & August Boeger Middle School comprise one league of eight schools. The sports league contains eight sports which include Soccer (Boys & Girls), Football (co-ed), Volleyball (Girls), Softball (co-ed), Wrestling (co-ed), Basketball (6th Grade Girls, 6th Grade Boys & 7/8th grade Girls, 7/8th grade Boys), Tennis (co-ed), & Golf (co-ed).

The Alum Rock School District Sports League consists of seven schools and participate in all sports but wrestling. ASAS Sports Leagues are seven to eight week sessions. All ASAS Middle School Sports participants must complete one of three

Anti- Tobacco projects assigned by the sports director and any student that has an unexcused absence for the week is ineligible to compete in the next week’s game. Our elementary sites participate in a Jr. Giants baseball league and the league includes 200 participants.

All Sites participate in either Fit for Learning (Elementary) or G-Team (Middle School). These components are essential in instilling healthier lifestyles with our kids and providing them with information on eating/drinking healthy and being physically active.

ASAS also sent two participants to the Kobe Bryant Camp in Loyola Marymount. These kids have been in our program since the 6th grade and have instilled tremendous character throughout their time with After-School All-Stars.

ENTOURAGE

Students feel that their voices are never heard. They want to make a difference in their communities, but don’t know where to start. Entourage students will find guidance and advice about moving into leadership positions at home, school, and in the community. This program will give students a great opportunity to discover their leadership abilities. Students will feel empowered, by taking ownership of the program. 75% of decisions
made in our programs are decided by the students. After-School All-Stars would like to see a program that allows for one-to-one contact, peer with peer. Our program should encourage making healthy choices, staying drug free, being violence free, learning how to resolve conflict, and learning strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. This is something that can have a major rippling effect within our communities and schools. Read More...

MIRACLES

MIRACLES® is a groundbreaking out-of-school program that introduces an innovative approach to bridging the digital divide. The goal of the MIRACLES® program is to use the power of technology to build technology, educational, and life skills for at-risk children. MIRACLES® is a comprehensive multi-year program designed to have a sustained impact on the children it serves. Structured, instructor-led, and outcome based, the program goes beyond simply providing inner-city communities with access to the Internet, hardware and software: MIRACLES® builds technology skills to increase employability, enhances educational skills to build reading and math ability, and augments life skills to create better citizens. The ASAS offers the MIRACLES® Technology program at Burnett Academy and Hoover Middle School.
